My story with drones began in September 2024, when planning to buy a small C0-certified drone for an upcoming holiday trip. Just something simple to use and easy to take along with… But what started as a vacation idea quickly turned into a full-blown fascination. I was hooked!
Hi, I’m Franky – and I’m a passionate drone pilot.
On this page, I share my personal work – photos and videos alike – all shot with my DJI drones. No commercial stuff, just pure passion.
To be honest, my story starts way earlier - of course. I held my first camera at the age of thirteen. I had absolutely no clue what I was doing or how to make a halfway decent photo. Still, I was instantly drawn in by the magic of capturing images. That curiosity led me, after finishing A-levels school and a stint at military as an Officer, in 1992 to take the leap: I turned my hobby into a profession.
I began a tough three-year apprenticeship at a commercial photo studio, learning the craft from ground up. I shot on massive analog large format cameras – up to 8x10 inches – and developed everything by hand in a “classical” darkroom (no Lightroom, no Photoshop, no Topaz & Co. at all), surrounded by the strong smell of photo chemicals. It was intense, but I loved it.
Soon after, fashion and beauty photography became my focus. Work brought me to Hamburg and then all over the world for catalog shootings – beautiful beaches, amazing people and unforgettable moments. Finally I ended up living and working in Paris, the mekka of fashion, for quite a while.
In 2002, I decided to take a step back from professional photography. Up until today, I’ve been paying the bills (and buying the occasional coffee and croissant) as an Interim Manager. But let’s be real: I never truly quit. Photography has always been part of me. Flying drones brings that spark back – it reconnects me with what I’ve always loved: capturing the world from a unique perspective - for you shown here on Droneography.work
